This is by far the absolute best game I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing, I mean experiencing in every sense of the word, you don't play it you live it, I am sad that it is over and hope there will be more. I found the story both gripping and sad and felt a genuine connection with Senua and that made me fight even harder to help her with her quest. Thank you NINJA THEORY for such an amazing experience WOW!. NO WORDS TO DESCRIBE THIS GAME BUT AMAZING. Left speechless as the credits roll. Absolutely stunning experience.Going to be real hard to find something to top that game now.. The immersion is intense. The music is fantastic. The combat while not particularily involved, feels good and looks fantastic. The story is emotionally gripping.I've played a lot of games where you watch the character from a distance, and you watch the character feel things and you understand them and it's cool, and games where they pull the personality from the character completely and let you insert your own. Both are fun to play, But Hellblade manages to remove your own personality and replace it with Senua's. I felt the way she felt in a way no other game (or book or movie) has ever made me feel.I highly recommend it.. hellblade was one of the most amazing gaming experiences i've had in years. the kind of game that you will think about often long after you've played it. and one you'll judge future single player experiences against.the setting, visuals, music, story, and of course, the voices, provide an incredibly immersive experience. most of all, the minimalist UI (there really isn't any) is absolutely brilliant. it is you and your sword and the voices in your head. no health meter, no icons, nothing. this allows you to really put aside your reality and make Sensua's reality yours...the sword play is incredibly satisfying - while there are definitely some moves that are repetitive, there's a very subtle way to control combat that really stands out - it's much more about choosing targets and controlling the timing than the way you swing the sword. the "voices" are an integral part of the combat as well ("look out behind you!").the puzzles are very clever and everything you need is provided - i never once had to look at a walkthrough. some of the puzzles are so incredibly satisfying you'll want to do them again. the game slowly gives you more hints so the difficulty is really based on how long you take to solve the various puzzles. you always feel like you're moving forward, rarely do you have to backtrack, and there is really no frustration.the ending of the game is also incredible and deeply moving. i felt so one with Sensua by that point - i was so immersed - it was difficult to let go...she is so powerful. she is so human. i didn't want the experience to end.p.s. there was one glitch in the game involving doors that had me very annoyed - if you can't seem to open a door you need to take one step back - maybe this has been patched as it was a painful bug in an otherwise bug free (for me) game.p.p.s. the "mental illness" aspect of the game should be set aside, imho - you should play the game for what it is. a tragic story of a lover who is present. i think the game designers try too hard to justify the game's story as a statement on mental illness. it feels forced and takes away from a very unique, dark, powerful experience - and it takes away from Sensua - to think of her as mentally ill is a huge disservice to her very real agony and strength.. What a game...what a story...Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice has an unique story...a very emotional one to be precise, it also gives you a strong personal message towards the end of the game, which i won't say !I would give it a strong 8/10.pros-Incredible and unique sound effects combined with beautiful ingame graphics.-the story is fantastic !-the puzzles forces you to actually use your brain !!! ( not like the many other new mainstream games where you just press mouse1 and kill everybody )-a very strong and also unique atmospherecons:the puzzles could sometimes be annoying(but the game doesnt last long, so lets just appreciate the game instead of whining to every single thing present right ? :). 'she'll fall!'she can't do it.'no, no turn back, it's dangerous...'she'll die. that's it, she'll die. ha.SHUT THE HEL UP AND♥♥♥♥♥♥OFF! SHE CAN DO IT!....Oh... ...so that's how you have to start this believe-in-yourself thingy...Thank you developers. --- Even though the ride started out slow and a bit frustrating, as I had (and still have) problems with these pesty door rune riddles. The more i progressed, the more this paled to background whispers, though. +++ What grew until the end, was my appreciation for Hellblades:- graphics and setting: gorgeous (even on my older machine) and in parts rather creative- more important: the games story, its way of telling with this well paced up and down phases, that resonate with Senuas determination- most important: its deep cutting visualisation of her state, as well as her content of mind. I've never been able to peer so deep into a game character, not that I really had a choice in this anyway... Little Warning: But I guess, for this piece to really shine, you have to want to look. Have to want to walk the darkness with her. Otherwise this game would not click and maybe even seem annoying.(I'm not done yet, but had to get this off my mind anyway)
